Raise-a-Reader Funding Supports Literacy in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Literacy Network invites your organization to apply for funding from the 2011 Leader-Post (for southern communities) or The StarPhoenix Raise-a-Reader campaign (for northern communities). The purpose of the Raise-a-Reader campaign is to raise awareness and funds to support family literacy programs and initiatives in Saskatchewan. Deadline for funding for applications for 2011 is now closed. The upcoming deadline for Raise-A-Reader proposals for 2012 projects is October 31st, 2012.

SaskSmart Innovation Fund (SSIF)

The SaskSmart Innovations Fund has been established to provide financial assistance to Saskatchewan communities to create innovative and sustainable ways to address their literacy needs. Two types of funding are available: Expression of Interest and Community Literacy Plan.

Community Development Corporations

Community Development Corporations (CDCs) were created under the 2002 Gaming Framework Agreement signed between the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) and the Government of Saskatchewan.

The CDCs consider applications for funding from First Nations and non-First Nations organizations located in communities surrounding each casino for initiatives in the following areas: economic development, social development, justice initiatives, educational development, recreational facilities operation and development, senior and youth programs, cultural development, community infrastructure development and maintenance, health initiatives, and other charitable purposes.
